My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14 b
Fear, anxiety, nervous...
QUESTION?? Have you ever found yourself in the midst of a troubling situation and felt totally alone, abandoned, that you were on the brink of death, gripped with fear from the circumstances you were facing?
Several times in my life I have experienced these feelings…. The first time I recall was when I was a child about 3 or 4 years of age. I had fallen out of our car while riding with my mother. I awakened from unconsciousness in the emergency room, with no parents within eye view. My head was bleeding and the doctor and nurses were getting ready to put stitches in my head. Unnerving for a four year old!
A year or so later, we were swimming at the swimming hole in the bend of the river. I had been playing in the shallow area just down stream where the water was quiet and easy. A nice place for small children to play that could not swim. But the big kids that could swim were crossing the river, climbing the bank and swinging on a rope out over the deep water.
After a span of time, my younger brother, cousins and I decided to watch the contest from the big rock that made the bend on our side of the river. It was large and smoothly rounded from years of water flowing over it during the snow melt and spring rains. A great boulder.
As we sat near mother, she warned us not to go to far out, because we might slide off into the deep water. You guessed it, not realizing the danger, although duly warned, being the high energy child that most 5 year olds can be, I got to close to the edge and slid right off in the deep water.
I couldn’t swim, and fear took hold. I was sure that I was going to die. Well, I am here writing this account some years later because of a brother that was a good fast swimmer quickly pulled me from a would be watery end.
Several other times as a child and adult I have had times when I experienced fear, anxiety, and nervousness due to illness, surgery or loneliness or tragic experiences.
Over the past several months I have struggled to write because of illness and the depression that goes along with life’s trials.
This is not how Christians should live. Over and over in my daily devotions I have been amazed at the numerous times the precious WORD of GOD mentions “the Presence of the Lord.”
Jesus is waiting and longing to help us experience His wonderful presence. Many times Jesus referred to giving the disciples “Peace.” In fact, His first words to them after His resurrection were, “Peace be with you.” When we have God’s peace there is no place for fear, anxiety or nervousness to dwell. Find a quiet spot to experience the Presence of Jesus. He is waiting to give you His “Peace.”
